Competition Commission of India enters scene as milk prices spike – Economic Times

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is considering a suo motu inquiry, or inquiry on its own, to ascertain whether retailers have colluded to raise prices. Full-cream milk now retails at 38 a litre, up from 30 in March 2010.

Initial investigation has shown that retailers have increased prices 13 times over the past year, a senior CCI official said. “This is way more than the hike in petrol prices,” the official said, “Unlike petrol, milk has no substitutes and such steep hike hurts the common man the most.”
