A draft EU risk assessment report for nitrobenzene points to the need for further testing on its skin sensitisation potential and, based on its potential carcinogenicity, a need to limit the risks for workers. No further risk reduction measures are considered necessary to protect consumers. Nitrobenzene is predominantly used to make aniline, which is subsequently mainly used in polyurethane production. The report has now been sent to the EU Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER) for comment. A draft environmental risk assessment was published in February.
