REACH guidance on ’substances in articles’ published

ECHA, the regulatory body responsible for implementing the EU REACH has published much awaited the technical guidance note on “Article”. Article are defined as object which are given special shape, surface or design during the production which determines it function to a greater degree that its chemical composition to the users. For Example, a pen, an automobile, a garment etc are considered as article under EU REACH.

Under REACH, to ensure the EU REACH compliance of an ARTICLE, one needs to register only those chemicals which are meant to be released during the normal or foreseeable uses conditions. This gaudiness documents further defines “Intended Release” as accessory function and “NOT the Main Function”  as interpreted earlier.
