Who is ready for EU REACH- perhaps very few?

PWC has conducted a survey on readiness and awareness towards EU REACH. The Survey included 241 senior executives across 6 industries in 29 countries.6 industries covered are pharmaceuticals; industrial manufacturing; forest, paper and packaging (FPP); retail and consumer; and automotive.

According to the survey, two out of five companies have limited awareness about EU-REACH and One in four executive thinks EU REACH has no impact on there operations.

Most of the companies misunderstand EU REACH as environment legislation than a regulation with company/ industry/ cross-industry wide implications such as loss of EU Market, Supply chain disruptions,

North American Companies are lest aware of the EU REACH,

2/3 corporations feel that to ensure the EU REACH compliance, they would be relying on  Supply chain assurance. 22% of them even consider the extreme step of removal of product from EU.

Chemical and Pharmaceutical companies are most aware of the EU REACH as well as front runner in Supply chain communications.

Only 10% companies have undertaken detailed risk assessment of EU REACH exposure. 30 % have done some exposure assessment and 31% had done nothing.

Situation seems to be really dark, when we see this degree of awareness amongst the exposed companies and looming deadlines( 1st June -30 Nov 08) to meet the obligations.
